Is Endometrial Cancer the Same as Uterine Cancer?

Uterine cancer can form in the inner lining, called the endometrium, or the muscular wall of the uterus called the myometrium. The most common type of uterine cancer is endometrial cancer, affecting the lining inside the uterus. Because of this, many people will refer to endometrial cancer as uterine cancer.

Endometrial cancer forms in the tissue lining the uterus (the small, hollow, pear-shaped organ in a woman’s pelvis in which a fetus develops). Most endometrial cancers are adenocarcinoma, which begins in the cells that make and release mucus and other fluids.
