Biography
Andrea Edwards has been a practicing Physician Assistant since 2010 and has specialized in hematology and oncology since 2011. She earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After practicing in Orthopedics, she joined Virginia Oncology Associates (VOA), where she continues to maintain a passion for delivering compassionate, patient centered, evidence-based cancer care.
Since joining VOA, Andrea has served in progressively advancing leadership roles, including APP Supervisor, APP Manager, and currently Director of APP Services. In her current role, she provides strategic and operational leadership for VOA's Advanced Practice Provider (APP) program, supporting a large, multi-site APP workforce across outpatient, inpatient, procedural, survivorship, palliative care, radiation oncology, cell therapy, urgent care, and other specialty oncology services. She partners closely with physicians, operational leaders, and executive leadership to advance APP practice, optimize care delivery, and support organizational growth.
Andrea has led the development and expansion of numerous APP-led programs and initiatives, including survivorship care, urgent oncology care, inpatient APP utilization, onboarding and mentorship infrastructure, APP leadership development, telehealth services, rapid diagnostic programs, and workforce optimization strategies. She is passionate about creating innovative models that improve access, standardization, operational efficiency, and patient experience across the oncology continuum.
A strong advocate for professional development, Andrea is committed to advancing the role of Advanced Practitioners in oncology through leadership, education, mentorship, and collaboration. She actively participates in national oncology leadership and professional development initiatives. Her interests include APP workforce development, survivorship care, leadership strategy, operational innovation, and advancing the value of APPs within cancer care.
Outside of work, Andrea enjoys skiing, stand-up paddle boarding, traveling, watching Pittsburgh Steelers football, and spending time outdoors. Most importantly, she treasures time with her husband and two children.
