Dr. Heather Jones received her Bachelor of Science in Physiology from the University of Toronto where she also received her Master of Science and Ph.D. in Biostatistics and Epidemiology. She received her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and completed her Radiation Oncology Residency at the University of Pennsylvania where she served as Chief Resident. Following her residency, she was invited to spend a year at the renowned Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam as a visiting clinician and focused her research efforts on breast cancer.
Dr. Jones is board-certified in Radiation Oncology and is an active member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Radiation Oncology, American College of Radiation Oncology, and American Society of Clinical Oncology. Before joining Virginia Oncology Associates, Jones served as the Director of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Natrona Heights Cancer.
Dr. Jones is a prolific academician and researcher, having served as Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the University of Pennsylvania Hospitals, and the Netherlands Cancer Institute. She is the principal investigator for numerous grants including those from the NIH and the Susan G. Komen Foundation, involving topics from basic molecular cancer research to community cancer care. Recognized as an expert in breast cancer, Jones continues to travel internationally as an invited speaker and is widely published in prestigious medical journals. Her current interests include survivorship issues for all types of cancers, and cancer care in the elderly.
